Buttered pasta and peas with crisp breadcrumbs

The Birds Eye pasta comes already sauced, so dinner is minutes away. A handful of garlic breadcrumbs adds texture and keeps the dish from tasting like reheated frozen food. Finish with fresh pepper and maybe a shred of cheese if you have it.

You need

From your shelf

  • one 16 oz package whole grain pasta and peas with butter sauce

Staples

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • pinch salt
  • to taste pepper

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Cook the pasta and peas according to package directions until tender, about 8 minutes. While the water comes to a boil, mince 1 clove garlic and warm 1 tablespoon butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
  2. When the butter foams, add the minced garlic and 1/4 cup breadcrumbs to the skillet. Stir often until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown, about 3 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt.
  3. Drain the pasta and peas and divide between two bowls. Scatter the garlic breadcrumbs over each bowl and grind fresh pepper over the top.

Note No swaps needed for this quick dish. Leftovers keep, refrigerated, for two days; reheat gently with a splash of water. Serve with a simple green salad or raw vegetables on the side to brighten the meal.
