You need

From your shelf

  • one 10-ounce bag steam-in-bag whole brussels sprouts (Good & Gather)

Staples

  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

  1. Steam the brussels sprouts in the bag according to the package instructions, usually about 6 minutes in the microwave or until tender when pierced.
  2. While they steam, mince 3 cloves of garlic. Set a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 3 tablespoons of oil.
  3. Once the brussels sprouts are tender, carefully open the bag and pour them onto a plate. When the oil shimmers, add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the brussels sprouts to the skillet and cook without moving them for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottoms turn golden and crispy. Toss and cook for another 2 minutes until they brown all over.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Divide between two plates and serve at once.

Note Swap minced garlic for fresh cloves if that's what you have. Leftovers keep in the fridge for three days and reheat in a dry pan over medium heat. Serve with rice or bread to stretch the meal, or alongside roasted chicken or fish.
