Hot ham and turkey sandwich with mustard and pickles

A classic deli sandwich built on what you have, layered with sharp mustard and crisp pickles for contrast. The ham and turkey are already cooked and smoked, so this comes together in minutes for a satisfying weeknight supper.

You need

To buy

  • 4 slices sliced bread
  • as needed dill pickle spears and whole grain mustard

From your shelf

  • 4 oz [115 g] oven roasted turkey breast
  • 4 oz [115 g] smoked uncured ham

Staples

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  1. Warm 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium heat. Slice the turkey breast and ham into thin pieces as the butter melts.
  2. Layer 2 slices of bread with 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard total, then divide the turkey and ham between them, piling the meat on both slices to warm it through, about 2 minutes.
  3. Arrange 4 dill pickle spears alongside each sandwich and serve hot.

Note Swap the mustard for mayo or aioli if you prefer it milder. Wrap leftovers and eat cold the next day. Serve with tomato soup or a simple green salad with vinegar dressing to round out the meal.
