  • 2 hot dogs
  • as desired mustard, relish, or ketchup

From your shelf

  • 2 whole wheat hot dog buns

Staples

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • pinch salt
  • pinch pepper

  1. Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a skillet over high heat. Place 2 hot dogs in the water and simmer for 4 minutes until heated through, stirring once halfway.
  2. While the dogs cook, split the 2 whole wheat buns and set them cut-side down in a skillet with 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Toast for 2 minutes until golden and crisp.
  3. Drain the hot dogs with a slotted spoon and place one in each toasted bun. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, then top with mustard, relish, or ketchup as you like.
