Sausage and pepperoni baked pasta

This is weeknight pasta built straight from a jar of pizza sauce with sausage and pepperoni already mixed in. The sauce simmers into the noodles as they bake, so the whole dish comes together in one pan with almost no work once everything is in the oven.

Serves 2. 30 minutes, 10 at the stove.

You need

From your shelf

  • 1 24-ounce jar Pepperoni and sausage pizza sauce, Prego

Staples

  • 6 ounces pasta
  • for pasta water salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil

  1. Heat your oven to 400°F [200°C]. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook 6 ounces of pasta until just under al dente, about 2 minutes short of the package time; drain and toss with 1 tablespoon of oil.
  2. Pour the jar of pizza sauce into a baking dish large enough to hold the pasta, then fold in the drained pasta until the sauce coats everything evenly.
  3. Bake uncovered until the sauce bubbles at the edges and the top is beginning to brown, about 15 minutes; let it sit for 2 minutes before serving.

Note Swap short pasta shapes like penne or rigatoni for spaghetti if you like. Leftovers keep in the fridge for three days and reheat gently with a splash of water. Serve with a green salad or garlic bread to round it out.
