Staples
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Cut the panini bread in half horizontally. Layer 2 ounces of ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese on each half, then close them.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place both sandwiches in the pan and weight them down with a smaller skillet or press, cooking until the bread browns and crisps, about 4 minutes.
- Flip the sandwiches, press again, and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese is soft inside, about 3 minutes more. The filling will be warm and the bread will be toasted.
Note Swap the Swiss for another cheese if you prefer. Wrap leftovers in foil and reheat in a 350°F [175°C] oven. Serve with mustard, pickles, or a simple green salad.
