Campbell's spaghetti with garlic bread

A can of Campbell's and ten minutes make a warm bowl of spaghetti. This shelf gives you one dinner, so we build around it with butter and garlic toast to give it ballast and something to soak up the sauce.

You need

To buy

  • 4 slices bread

From your shelf

  • 1 can Campbell's spaghetti in tomato sauce with cheese

Staples

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • pinch salt

  1. Heat one can of Campbell's spaghetti in tomato sauce with cheese in a small pot over medium heat, stirring now and then, until it steams steadily, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  2. While the spaghetti heats, mince 2 cloves garlic fine. Spread 2 tablespoons butter on 4 slices bread, rub with the garlic, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Turn your broiler to high. Set the bread on a rack or baking sheet and broil 3 to 4 minutes, watching so it doesn't char, until the edges turn gold.

Note Swap the bread for a box of crackers if you like. The spaghetti keeps three days cold; warm it gently with a splash of water. Serve with a green salad or a handful of spinach wilted into the sauce.
