Toasted Hawaiian bread with buttered honey

Sweet Hawaiian bread turns suppertime when split and toasted golden with butter and a drizzle of honey. This shelf gives you one thing, so the dish is built on its texture and the toast itself becomes the point. Serve with eggs or cheese to round it out.

You need

To buy

  • 3 tablespoons honey

From your shelf

  • 1 loaf (Nature's Own) Hawaiian bread

Staples

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • pinch salt

  1. Slice the loaf of Hawaiian bread lengthwise into 2 halves and place them cut side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Toast in a 400°F [200°C] oven for 8 to 10 minutes until the cut surfaces are golden and crisp.
  2. While the bread toasts, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with a pinch of salt in a small pan over low heat.
  3. Remove the sheet from the oven and brush the hot toast generously with the melted butter, then drizzle 3 tablespoons of honey over both halves. Let sit for 1 minute so the honey soaks slightly into the bread.

Note Swap honey for softened cheese or leftover scrambled eggs spread on the toast. Keeps wrapped for one day. Pair with a fried egg on top, or cut into pieces and serve alongside a simple green salad.
