To buy
- half a loaf crusty bread or baguette
From your shelf
- 1 box, 38 oz Stouffer's lasagna with meat and sauce
Staples
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- pinch salt
- Heat your oven to 375°F [190°C]. Remove the lasagna from its box and place it in a baking dish or leave it in its tray if it fits your oven. Cover it loosely with foil.
- Bake the lasagna for 25 to 27 minutes, until it is hot throughout and the cheese on top shows light browning at the edges. While it bakes, mince 2 cloves garlic and melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small pan over low heat, then stir in the garlic and a pinch of salt.
- Halve your bread lengthwise and brush the cut sides evenly with the garlic butter. Set it cut side up on a baking sheet.
- When the lasagna has 3 minutes left, slide the bread into the oven alongside it to toast until golden and crisp. The lasagna and bread finish together.
Note Swap crusty bread for garlic knots or focaccia if you find them. Leftover lasagna keeps in the fridge for three days; reheat gently in a low oven. Serve with a green salad or steamed greens on the side to balance the richness.
