- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Spread 1 tablespoon butter on one side of four bread slices. Toast in a skillet over medium-high heat, buttered side down, until golden and crisp, about 2 minutes.
- Flip the toast and lay 2 cheese slices on each piece. Reduce heat to medium, cover the pan, and let the cheese melt, about 2 minutes, until it covers the bread evenly.
- Transfer to a plate, sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper, and serve warm.
