You need

To buy

  • 4 slices bread

From your shelf

  • 4 ounces (115 g) honey pecan cream cheese spread

Staples

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Heat one tablespoon of butter in a small skillet over medium heat until it foams and smells nutty, about two minutes.
  2. Stir one tablespoon of flour and a pinch of salt into the butter to make a paste, then cook for one minute, stirring often.
  3. Toast four slices of bread in a toaster or under the broiler until golden and crisp.
  4. Spread half the honey pecan spread on each piece of warm toast, then dust each with 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon.

Note The warm toast and spiced spread are complete as a light dinner; serve with strong coffee or tea. Leftovers do not keep. If you have time, warm the spread slightly and drizzle it over the toast instead of spreading cold.
